I have to say, Lucette's redemption arc has been really satisfying so far. I also really enjoyed the interactions between Lucette and Emelaigne. It's almost enough for me to forget that Lucette and Rod are step-siblings. They're surprisingly cute! Like they're having competitions over who can be more tsun. Tsundere protagonist + tsundere love interest = constant tsun-offs. The one problem I have with it (but it's the case with most DSims) is that there's no way to completely skip the busywork when replaying for other routes, I will probably just end it at two playthroughs, finishing Ava's and Sola's arcs - I don't care about Chigara and Asaga anyways, neither here nor in the main games.įinished Rod's route, both good and bad ( _ ) endings. You probably spend more time on managing numbers than with the actual story content, but the amount of story the game offers is actually pretty impressive. The dating sim mechanics are extensive and time-consuming at first, but they go much quicker when you get the hang of it (and even quicker once you max out the affection meters and don't get random encounters anymore). Also, surprisingly enough, the game doesn't only rely on throwing blunt references to main games in your face, much of it is quite subtle and (borderline) smart. I've only started Ava's route so far and I can't say I hate it - it's not at all serious, just like the whole game isn't, but it's fun to read and I like where the romance is going. I've always thought that the heroines, other than Ava, were the weakest part of the whole series but here devs skipped the more irritating parts of the cast altogether and made the rest fairly appealing (apart from Asaga who I will never like because I hate the hyperactive/baka archetype). It has exactly the trashy feel you would expect from an ecchi spin-off, but the dialogues and character development are done better than in the main Sunrider games. I’d like things to open up a bit more and get more events, but I’ll play it through without consulting a guide and see how it ends up.I'm playing through Sunrider Academy (what am I doing with my life? :s) and so far it's. This means that I can focus more on just playing the game rather than on managing stress and the like. So far, the game is entertaining enough, at least on Easy, as that lets me avoid the increasing death-march of stress-failure-stress-sick-death. Like “Sakura Wars: So Long My Love”, the characters and the main character are all pretty eccentric, but Kayto is less so than the main character of that game and all of the girls are far more normal and relatable than the girls in that game, so the eccentricities are far less overwhelming. The date with Chigara was interesting and funny, with the two of them stumbling through an awkward and shy date. The two I find most appealing are Chigara and Ava, and unlocking the “Charm” option seems to be making it a lot easier to advance their affection. And the characters are interesting enough, although Asaga is getting on my nerves, which is why I’m now trying to avoid advancing affection with her, especially since for the longest time her affection was by far the highest out of all of them. Still, events have become more common which makes the game seem less grindy, which was a problem early on. I like Chigara, so if I’ve accidentally locked myself into her arc that’s fine, but that seems like an annoying way to build a game like this. So I’m a little confused about what’s going on. Did selecting her arc lock me into her? Or are the arcs time-based instead of affection-based? And I found that I had to try to improve the readiness of some of the clubs in order to trigger new scenes, and in fact because I hadn’t been reporting progress I ended up triggering an event with Ava later than it was supposed to happen (the scene references something that already happened). I also went on a date with Chigara already. But I’ve managed to raise at least Ava to the same affection level and don’t have an option to trigger an arc with her. This leaves me a bit confused and wondering if I’ve done something wrong, because at one point it gave me the option to trigger Chigara’s arc which, since the character interested me, I immediately did. The game still isn’t good at explaining what you’re supposed to be doing and what everything means. Some of the same complaints that I had the first time carry over to this as well. So, I had played Sunrider Academy a bit more since I first played it and after taking a short break I returned to it playing it on weekends, in the hopes of finishing it.
